Market News
Hello!
During the torrid temperatures of September, a customer asked me whether I preferred deliveries in the 90 degree weather or the 30 degree temps of winter. I paused to answer because even though the heat was stifling and never ending, I abhor standing out in freezing temps. It looks like there will be some low temps in the teens on Tuesday night which is right before Wednesday delivery. No cause for panic since I purchased a box of 40 chauffe-mains (hand warmers). The brand is Little Hotties which I find a little obnoxious, so I use the French name of the product. They are securitate, naturel and inodoere. I am busy sewing pockets in my undergarments and socks so that I can be fully covered with the chauffe-mains.
THERE WILL BE NO FRESH HARVEST DELIVERY THANKSGIVING WEEK.
I plan to do my best to be up at the church for pick up until daylight savings time returns next spring.
There’s quite a nice selection of veggies this week including peppers, lettuce and kale. If something sells out that you want, just make a note in the Comment section and if more becomes available, you’ll be the first in line.
Bloomy Rind has Pimento Cheese and Cultured Butter as well as 8 other tasty items.
In the meat category, there is quite the selection of pork, beef, chicken and duck. If you need something for the holidays, let me know and I’ll see if Bear Creek or Wedge Oak will be able to have it for you.
Dozen Bakery will have pies and other wonderful items available for your Thanksgiving. You can check out the options at their website: https://www.dozen-nashville.com/thanksgiving-menu-2019
To order you can email them at: holidays@dozen-nashville.com or call them at: (615) 712-8150. Deadline for ordering is the Sunday before Thanksgiving.
Wedge Oak Farm will have a limited number of turkeys available for Thanksgiving. These are locally grown heritage turkeys. You will need to pick them up at their farm in Lebanon or at the Richland Farmers’ Market. You can contact Wedge Oak for size and price at: wedgeoak@gmail.com
Dozen Bakery’s galettes, cookies and breads, eggs, granola, honey, and coffee are all in abundance.
You have until Tuesday night to place your order.
Thanks for your support, and I will see you on Wednesday!
If you need to text me, my number is 615-838-0428.

Magney Legacy Ridge Farm: CSA #32
Dear CSA-ers,
This week’s bag will hopefully contain Sweet Potatoes (Amish Grown), Carrots, Radishes, Kale, Arugula, oregano and Acorn Squash (Amish Grown). Custom orders may be placed between now and Tuesday evening on the website at: https://magneyfarm.locallygrown.net/market
Wow! There are some scary November numbers in the forecast for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. As of writing this letter, there is a forecasted predicted low of 13° F early Wednesday morning, following a Tuesday that is not predicted to get above 28° F. We wish that we could confidently predict a great CSA, but these are January numbers in early November. This severe of cold this early is nigh unprecedented and despite having all the vegetables tucked under frost cloth (even the ones already within tunnels) these temperatures truly threaten the survival of even our most cold hardy crops. We wish that we could say otherwise, but this is an unusual year.
It is our intention to take CSA orders as usual and then evaluate crop survival on Wednesday. In the event of irreconcilable freeze damage, your order will be refunded, and we will send an email detailing how we intend to move forward. It is possible that we are overreacting here and that crops will survive and carry on just fine, but we are venturing into uncharted territory for Fall. We want to be transparent with you, our customers and community members, as well as preemptive in our approach.
On a bright note, we are looking forward to our 2020 season and are beginning our planning process, as well as discussions on how to expand the offerings of the farm. This starts with an evaluation of the varieties we offered this year where we have conversations about the taste and performance of various vegetables. We would love to have your input on this as well! If there’s anything that really stood out in the bags of this year, things you’d like to see more or less of, or perhaps something new entirely, please send us an email! We are your CSA, and while we can’t promise to be able to fit everything into our rotations, your input will be both valued and considered.
We are so happy to be a part of your community and to have you a part of ours. In some ways this has felt like a very milestone year for us, with many things starting to click into place. There have been struggles and there will continue to be. Farming will never be an easy venture. Yet through your support and our teamwork, we believe we will continue to grow.
Sincerely,
The Magney Legacy Ridge Farm Team

This Friday pick up will be in the lobby at St. Peter’s Episcopal church, not in the parish hall where we normally meet. Enter through the courtyard and the lobby will be on the left.
Garlic plants are now available. This garlic won a blue ribbon and best of show at the Faulkner county fair this year and two years ago. Only $1 per sprouted plant in a 2-inch pot. Transplant them into a sunny spot in your garden now. Will be ready to dig in early June. Figure 6 to 8 garlic plants per person in your family.
Attention pet owners! There is a new product from Bradford Valley Farm. It is a 2 pound frozen block of ground chicken frames, and parts for your pet. Kinsey brought me a trial package on Friday, and here’s my glowing review: after thawing overnight, I simmered 1/3 of the package in 2 cups of water for about 10 minutes. This product looks just like ground beef but I could feel the very small pieces of bones throughout. I fed half of this to my two dogs over some dry food for dinner Saturday evening, and the other half for breakfast Sunday morning. Jackie and George absolutely loved it! The extra calcium is great for dogs. This 2 pound block of ground chicken frames will yield 12 wonderful dining experiences for one dog for only $7. This would not be a meal replacement, but for very special treats.
We’ve been having a lot of excellent items on the extra table lately. Earlier shoppers get the best selection. We are normally ready for customers to start arriving around 3 PM if you happen to be out and in the area. Just text me to see if we’re ready.
Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Four instance, type in the word “sale” and see what pops up. We have over 400 items available now!
Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!
And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)
The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:
