IMPORTANT FAIR INFORMATION FOR THIS SATURDAY, AUGUST 11TH:
Are you ready for the Fair?!
The Grayson County Livestock Show and Fair will be held next Saturday August 11. Hours are 9am to 4pm and admission is free. The location is Bottomley’s Evergreens and Farm, 10278 Elk Creek Pkwy, Elk Creek, VA 24326.
There is still time to prepare an exhibit and enter the fair. You will find all the information needed at the Grayson County Tourism website as well as the “Fair” tab on the Independence Farmers Market homepage.
We have just created a special youth art category! Anyone under the age of 12 is invited to make a print using cut vegetables. Mushrooms, apples and bell peppers cut in half work well. A bunch of celery cut at the bottom makes a print similar to a flower. Sliced okra is also attractive. Pick some vegetables and have fun! Entries will be accepted at the same time as the other exhibits mentioned below.
With the exception of the youth art category, the exhibits this first year are limited to vegetables, baked and canned goods. Please bring your entries to Bottomley’s Evergreens and Farm on Thursday, August 9, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Friday, August 10, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Pre-registration forms are available on the websites listed above and forms will also be available during registration. Pre-registration is not necessary in order to participate in the county fair but is highly recommended. All products must be grown or made by the exhibitor during the current calendar year. There are youth and adult entry forms.
Your exhibit will be tagged and you’ll receive a claim tag. Exhibit tags will be folded to maintain anonymity during judging. Judging will occur Friday afternoon and is closed to the public. Exhibits with ribbons will be on display during the fair. Exhibits will be available for pickup Sunday from 4-6pm.
Our second Ice Cream Social of the season is happening August 19th! Mark your calendars now and stay tuned for more details!
Thank you for supporting the Independence Farmers Market!

Green Fork Farmers Market: Green Fork Farmers' Market--Weekly Notification
*Dear Green Fork Farmers Market Customers:
August 8th Update
Stephen V., your interim Market Manager here.
We had a very productive meeting yesterday about the future of the market. We being Jane Maginot (Beyond Organics), Larry Galligan (Riverside Specialty Farm) and yours truly (Figgieville). We were also fortunate to have Ann Wells (Ozark Pastured Beef) join us. More about Ann in a moment.
It became clear in our meeting that a mid-week Online Market is needed in Fayetteville and that we are committing ourselves to keeping this picture alive. The goal is to return to a more diverse market with more growers of quality food and the ability to have products for sale “on the table” at least part of the year.
Most growers have a lull in production this time of year with the transition to fall crops. So we decided to take a break until October.
However, Ann Wells would be happy to meet you in the Southwest quadrant of the Evelyn Hills parking lot on either this Saturday a.m. or next Wednesday afternoon!
If you need (Pastured) BEEF, LAMB, CHICKEN, TOMATOES, AND WATERMELONS! Olives, Oil and HONEY are in good supply. EGGS: the chickens are coming our of molting so your patience is needed on those.
To receive her current Newsletter / complete Product List PLEASE SEND AN E-MAIL TO annw@pgtc.com OR BETTER YET TEXT ANN @
479-409-8772
You are sure to see some familiar faces @ Evelyn Hills.
We appreciate your patronage and will be in touch with further developments.
Sincerely Yours,
Stephen Vallus
