CLG:  NEW GROWERS! Opening Bell: Chicken, Honey, Rice, Eggs!

Good afternoon!

This week I had planned to announce a new Grower, but instead, I’m announcing TWO NEW GROWERS! Please read about their operations and production methods under the OUR GROWERS tab at the top of the page.

First, Judith Allen runs SalScillia Farm in Mayflower. Look for a variety of vegetables, eggs, and baked goods. Her hens are fed non-GMO, omega-rich grain. Interestingly enough, Judith plans her garden based on what YOU want her to grow. You can contact her, or contact Steve and I will pass your message on to her to let her know what vegetables you would like to see at the market next spring. Welcome Judith and family from SalScillia Farm!

Also welcome Greg and Kinsey Bradford from Bradford Valley Farm in Damascus! They are a young family looking to produce more food from their 50 acre operation. Currently they have Eggs and Pasture-Raised Chicken (Breasts, Drumsticks, Thighs, Feet, Liver, Backs, and Whole Birds), with plans to list Pork products around mid-September, and vegetables next year.

These families are producing food the right way, right here in our area. Eat Local! Now is a great time to talk to your friends, neighbors, and co-workers about trying Conway Locally Grown. The more people we have ordering food, the more our Growers can enhance their production capabilities for next season and beyond!

Apologies for the missing Zipper peas from Drewry Orchard. They were all ready and labeled, but in all the hustle of running a farm, they were forgotten when the rest of the items were loaded up. The good news is, you can order them again this week!

Tamales! Also on Friday, Doña Estela and her amazing homemade Tamales! She will make them Friday morning and have them at market Friday afternoon. They will be 5 for $7 in 3 flavors: Pork, Chicken, or Jalapeño & Cheese. To get an idea of how many she should prepare, please add a note to your order, or text me at 501-339-1039. If you do that, she will have your Tamales labeled for you. She may bring extras too. Delicious with sides of refried beans and rice, topped with a bit of salsa. They freeze very well so get some for several meals.

The Locals Food Recovery Program is looking for volunteers. Help us save food from the landfill and reroute it to hungry bellies! Partnering with Harps Food Store, The Locals Food Recovery Program has saved 4,760 pounds of food over the last 5 months. Volunteers pick up produce Tuesdays and Fridays. If you would like to help out visit http://www.thelocals.be/food_recovery for more info.

You will find some really good sale prices on several Pork items from Bar C and Grass Roots. On the main market page, just type in SALE in the search field and hit SEARCH.

Be sure to SEARCH for your favorite items using the search field. Almost 700 items available now!

Most items are listed by 6pm Sunday, but check back again before the market closes Tuesday night to see if any other items are ready to be harvested for you! Eat fresh! Eat local! Eat for better health!

And save your eggshells throughout the week for the laying hens! :-)

The market is now OPEN for orders. Click here to start shopping:

Please check your email a few minutes after you place your order to make sure you get an order confirmation. Thank you!

Independence,VA:  Market closes Monday night at 8 pm!

*

Good morning!

A big thank you to everyone who participated and came out to yesterday’s Grayson Agricultural Fair! Be sure to place your Online Market order before the Market closes for the week tomorrow night at 8 pm. Check out the fabulous varieties of peppers available this week! All of this beautiful produce won’t be around forever, time to start canning, dehydrating, freezing and fermenting, my friends!

Here’s some great news, between cash and GoFundMe donations, we raised $1,005! Thank you all so much for helping us reach our goal!

To Shop: Independence Farmers Market.

Speaking of fundraising, our second and last Ice Cream Social of the year is happening a week from today (August 19th from 2-5 pm)! If you haven’t been, we close down the entire street in front of the Grayson Landcare office, set up tents, tables and chairs, and even have a band and children’s activities. Of course, the best part is…the ICE CREAM and yummy toppings! Click here for more information. Please invite your family, friends and neighbors for a great time and a great cause!

Thank you all so much for supporting the Independence Farmers Market,

Abby

Winnsboro, TX:  Market CLOSED this week

Good morning,

There has been a death in my family & I am on the road, not sure when I’ll be home. I’ve decided it’s best to keep the online market closed this week. I’m sorry for any inconvenience & we will be back to business next week.

Thanks for your understanding,
Stacy

Stones River Market:  Market is OPEN with a new grower

Is it really August? Temperatures are fall like and getting more comfortable, schools are starting and FOOTBALL SEASON is about to begin…that means grilling and getting things that will make your gathering great. The Market will have you covered with what you might need to make whatever you plan special. All our meat vendors have the freshest and healthy meats available in my opinion. Beef, Pork, Poultry be sure to check them out.

Summer produce is still available and fall produce is arriving slowly. Melons, Apples, Breads and Sweet treats are always a hit any any event.

That being said we have a NEW GROWER, excited to have 6R Farm from Woodbury join our market. Offering Vegetables, pies and cookies! Casey will be at market pickup with few things and you can meet him and learn more about their farm.

Soloman’s Greenhouse has returned and has mushrooms available.

Flying S Farms still has tomatoes available, adding Bodacious corn; a delicious yellow sweet corn will be great on the grill.

Rainbow Hill Farm has Apples; Gingergold, it is the first apple of the season; green to yellow, sweet and tart, crisp and juicy. Several vegetables also.

I’ve only mentioned a few of our Grower/Vendors but several othes have some great things too. Goats Milk, Herbs and Plants, Fermented foods and drinks. Many things to available.

Looking forward seeing you on “The Porch” of Quinn’s Mercantile.
