Grumpy Goat:  Weblog Entry

Get your orders in to Jenn by tomorrow if you would like to pick up her fresh baked and delicious kreppels at the farm store on Tuesday! It looks like there are apple filled ones this week which will be a perfect fall treat – though I’m definitely getting the hazelnut ones too!

If anyone has bags – paper or plastic – please feel free to drop them off in the store. We are dangerously low so even if you don’t have bags to donate think about bringing your own reusable bags to fill up with veggies.

And thanks to the wonderful person who secretly dropped off a mum the other day! It will be nice to have some fall color outside the store. We always mean to decorate more but find we run out of time and energy so we truly appreciate the gesture!

Foothills Market:  Reminder - No Market This Week

We won’t have a market this week, but we plan to be back online next week. See you then!

Growers News:

Rainbow Hill Farm: Apples this week are Gingergold, Ozark Gold, Rhode Island Greening.

Calico Farms: Brand new to the market is our organic tomato juice. Canned in quart jars & containing only vine-ripened organic tomatoes from Servant Farms in Watertown, pink Himalayan sea salt & citric acid. Delicious & naturally hydrating, try it as a beverage or keep it on hand for cooking & soup making.

Returning to the market as we welcome fall flavors are our maple sea salt cookies. Organic, dairy-free & bursting with maple flavor, these are sold in 6-packs and are made with whole wheat flour & coconut sugar as a healthy bonus!

We also have cranberry oatmeal white chocolate chip cookies – they are just as tasty as they sound, too!

NashPhilly: We are excited to bring back for the soup of the week, French Onion Soup. Comes with French Baguette toast points, provolone cheese and Gruyère cheese so you can make your own delicious bowls of soup.

We just added another sauce this week, Bolognese. Beef cooked in red wine, carrots, celery, and onions and lots of garlic. And stewed in a marinara red sauce, basil and parsley. Creates a beautiful, rich and soul satisfying sauce. Add to your favorite type of pasta noodle or try it with rice. More sauces being added in the future.

Have you tried sous vide? Have you tried sous vide pork chops? Sous vide is the cooking process where a meat is vacuum sealed in a bag. Herbs and spices are usually added to enhance flavor at this point. Is gently and slowly cooked in a water bath with a hot water circulator over a period of at least a few hours for most recipes. The recipe creates a fully cooked meat, meat that cooks in its own fats and juices, never releasing any of its flavors; the results absolutely delicious. Try some of our sous vide pork chops. They are seasoned with lemon, and Italian herbs.

With the coolness of autumn coming in we will be eliminating some of our summer flavored dishes soon, to make room for Fall and winter. Yes we will be doing a Butter Nut Squash soup! For entree dishes we will be moving into the area of braises and stews and mashed potatoes. Chicken and Dumpling , yankee pot roast and beef bourguignon on the way!

Trinity Rose Micro Dairy: We are enjoying making our milks and keifer for you but we are loosing money on jars and if we have to continue buying new jars we will have to charge jar deposit. Thank you very much for your consideration.

WildFlour: Recently new Grower to the Market….I’m a proud artisan baker, making sourdough bread, cinnamon rolls, muffins and cookies. I pride myself on quality products made with care.

I proud also produce gluten free sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls- a rarity in the area!

Quarter Spring Farm: we have full freezers and we need your help emptying them out. We have dropped prices on a few of our pasture-raised chicken cuts like the bag of bones (great for stock) and the chicken livers (tons of iron, great for you). We will have all of our lamb cuts, and some goat meat available starting next week. As usual, we have our splendid selection of skin-softening soaps, shampoos, and lotions available.

Sadie Brooke Farm: Their Family Farm is located in Readyville, TN where we raise Black Angus Cattle and grow garden fresh Vegetables and fruits. Also have fresh Bacon, Ham and sausage. We have homemade canned goods and offer homemade baked goods such as custom cakes, cupcakes, pies, dipped strawberries and bread and Kombucha Beverages.

Safe and Sound Soap Co.:
Have you tried my hand soaps? They are ultra moisturizing with a rich lather! They make great gifts as well. If you’ve purchased them before then be sure and save the pump because I now have refill packs for them at a discounted price! Don’t forget about my new scented Laundry Soaps and Laundry Booster! I use high quality organic fragrance oils to scent these laundry soaps. They are Non-toxic, Phthalate and paraben free, and specifically formulated for those with sensitive skin. I also use these fragrances in my whipped sugar scrubs, so you can enjoy a luxury scrub without worrying about harsh fragrances or any chemicals. Thank you to all who have purchased my items in the past. Your support means so much!

Martin's Farmstand:  Fall is near

Fall is coming, and with it the selection of produce at the stand will shift towards sotrage carrots, onions, winter squash, leeks and so on. Cucumbers are nearing the end of the season and canning tomatoes are available for anyone looking to make sauce. This year we will also be stocking pumpkins for the Halloween season!

As the days cool, attention on the farm shifts to a frenzy of harvest. Potatoes and onions will be dug and stored to cure. Fitting enough winter squash into every nook and cranny, and beets and carrots galore. The Martin Family have been kind enough to teach the Greenwoods the art of food storage. Canning, freezing, and cooking will consistently be happening through the next few weeks.

With the shift in season we would like to note that soon things like cucumbers, basil, green and yellow beans and zuchinni etc. will be finished for the season. So anyone looking to freeze or store, or do some canning should accomplish it sooner rather than later.
As always if you have questions on availability or quantities feel free to give the stand a call!

Matthew

Thank you for choosing Northeast Georgia Locally Grown as a way to support your local producers. This online farmers market allows you to buy directly from multiple farms committed to chemical-free and local produce all year long! CHEMICAL-FREE means produce and pastures grown without synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, or insecticides. LOCAL means within 80 miles from the market pickup locations (usually much much closer). Do you know someone who grows chemical-free food in the area? Get them in touch with us. Know someone who wants fresh food? Spread the word. Put the two together, and that’s growing organically!

PICKUP TIME is Wednesday from 5-6:30 p.m. in Clayton, Clarkesville, or Gainesville.

If you do not get an email ORDER CONFIRMATION after you finish the checkout process, then your order is NOT complete. Head back to the market page, and your order might still be there waiting for you to check out! If you have any trouble or questions at all, we are here to help; simply reply to this email.

Once you place an order, be on the lookout for the order reminder email on Wednesday with further pickup and payment notes.

Thanks for supporting local farmers!
