Good morning!
This is just a friendly reminder to place your order online by 10 pm this evening. Please don’t forget to order! But if you do forget, give me (Linda) a call in the morning. Chances are I’ll be able to get hold of the farmers and place a late order for you.
Remember to hit that last “submit” button. I really dislike disappointing a customer who comes to market, only to find no order in their name because they didn’t hit the last button. When your order is placed, you will receive an email confirmation. If for any reason you fail to receive this confirmation, please contact Linda as soon as you realize it’s missing.
Also please go to our Facebook page & like, comment, and share this week’s post. Facebook isn’t allowing me to post on multiple sites, or post multiple photos. So please help us spread the word. Surveys indicate that word of mouth is the most effective form of advertisement. Please help us advertise our fantastic growing market!
See you on Thursday!
Blessings,
Michael & Linda
Champaign, OH: All The Scoop!
So, we have a lot of happenings, here, at this little local market of love…
Lots of new excitement, new interest, lots of customers, lots of vendors, and lots of new scoop to share…
Along with the addition of new vendors, we also have added new products in the Prepared Food Category!
We have commercially prepared vegan pesto from Kennedy Farms!!
Commercially prepared weekly soup varieties from Cosmic Charlie!
Commercially prepared/flash frozen farm fresh dinner selections from Hippie and the Farmer!!
In the next week or two, you will see one of your favorite vendors add her line of dried herbs and spices!! Michelle, of Honey Boy Honey, will begin offering her blends, soon, under her new vendor name, just for those organic items!!
And, for your sweet tooth, we will be adding homemade weekly pie varieties from a new vendor, Ruthie’s Pies!!
Most of you know her as part of the Oakview Farm Meats family, but now Ruth Runyan is branching out on her pie baking adventure! Look for her first editions, the week after next!
Just an update on all things market…
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam
Champaign, OH: Dead Man's Party
I was struck by lighting, walkin’ down the street
I was hit by something last night in my sleep
It’s a dead man’s party who could ask for more?
Everybody’s comin’, leave your body at the door
Leave your body and soul at the door…
(Dead Man’s Party-Oingo Boingo)
Because, what self respecting club kid of the 80s wasn’t groovin’ this on the dance floors? And, it will always remind me of road tripping from my college in Kentucky, to the wild streets of Ohio University for every Halloween, back in that time frame…
And, as we add this to our market Halloween playlist, I also wanted to let you know that Kennedy Farms has added more Butternut Squash and vegetables for the week!!
I can tell you that I got all of their items, last week, and they are all so beautiful, flavorful, and went into all of my dishes, this past week!
Ok, go groove the market dance floor, and get your orders in!!
XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Market News
Some of our northern growers are going to get their first frost this week. Even here in Athens the temperatures are forecast to fall into the 30s tonight, and I was caught by surprise earlier today when my phone buzzed me about a frost advisory for us.. A number of our growers have greenhouses and high tunnels that will let them extend the season, some all winter long, but for much of the gardens that supply our area markets, the summer produce are on their very last legs and the cool weather crops will take over.
Fall seems to be the traditional time for wanting to go visit a farm, maybe to pick apples or to find a good pumpkin, or to get lost in a corn maze. It’s true that most if not all of the agro-tourism spots nearby are conventional farms, but don’t let that stop you from paying them a visit, especially if you have children (or can borrow some for the day). So many kids think that their food supply begins at the grocery store, and farms are just something that they read about in picture books. Take them out and show them that farms are real things, that they’re worth visiting, and that they are near where they live. Farms shouldn’t be exotic places, relegated to storyland places like “The Dell” and “California”.
Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!
Other Area Farmers Markets
The Athens Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings at Bishop Park and Wednesday afternoons at Creature Comforts downtown. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market has returned, and you can catch the details on their website here: www.athenslandtrust.org/west-broad-farmers-market/. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running Saturdays from 9 to noon. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. Folks to the east can check out the Hartwell Farmers Market, which starts bright and early on Saturday morning from 7am to noon, and Tuesday afternoons from noon to 4pm. The city of Monroe has a downtown market on Saturdays, 8:30 to 12:30, and you can learn more here: www.monroedowntown.com/events/monroe-farmers-market. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.
All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!
We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest, and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!

Market News
Hello!
We got our first frost this weekend, the earliest in many years! It took out those remaining warm season crops of peppers and eggplant. We have done this week as the farmers harvested them before the frost took the plants. So enjoy them this week! It will be the last for awhile!
There is so much good stuff up on the Market page- lots of lettuce and delicious bitter chicories for salads, as well as s big variety of kale and radishes! It’s a great week for trying something new!! Don’t forget the winter squashes and sweet potatoes!
We are growing and selling year round. We depend on word of mouth for our advertising. So if you could, please tell a friend about us. If they sign up and get in a deposit, we will credit your account $10.00. Make sure they let us know who referred them!
Thanks so much for your support, and we look forward to seeing you on Wednesday!
