Champaign, OH:  Sugar, Spice, and Everything Nice

This week, we say, HELLO, to an old friend, and personally, one of my biggest inspirations in kindness, patience, and basically helping me to keep it real while in the midst of chaos, and someone that I know I can turn to, when I need a kind heart, a gentle soul.

We started our friendship journey, many years ago, out in the trenches of the physical farmers’ markets. We made up a girl gang of vendors, full of spirit, a desire to bring the local food force to the front and center, all mixed up with a dose of fun, craziness.

We used to help manage the Mechanicsburg Farmer’s Market, and in the early days, had so much fun! People used to laugh at our image, as we would stand, and chat, and from away, you could see the image of the Mennonite girl with the Hippie girl, standing in the middle of market midways, discussing important topics like…well, I can’t really tell you, but our topics were always full of fun snarkiness.

Anyway…she comes back to our market, you know her as Homecomer Traditions…out in the trenches, she is the Pretzel Lady. Here, at our market, she is known as, Honey Boy Honey, inspired by her own Honey Boy who is no longer that little boy. In my heart, she is always, Twisted Sister, a nickname from way back, and now, she comes back to us with her Honey Boy Honey…AND…her new line of Organic Spice and Herbal blends!! She is working so hard to get just the right blends, keeping it all organic, and will continue to add more and more blends.

So…go, show her some love, and get your spice and herbal blends, just in time for the holiday season!!

See…everything nice…right here…at your little local market of love…

Champaign, OH:  Romeo and Juliet

…tonight’s song is brought to you by the ever amazing Mark Knopfler. Yes, the haunting voice of Dire Straits. When I was a flight attendant way back in the day, I worked a flight, first class, LA-NYC, all night flight, and he and I chatted most of the flight.

He has one of those voices that just resonates with me. Especially on long days, days of baking/cooking/market making/planning…the everyday in my life.

Tonight, I got home, poured a glass of wine, and asked Alexa to give me some Cowboy Junkies, on Pandora, and this song came wafting through my kitchen, and house.

It makes me think of that long ago flight, of California where I used to live, to my very good friend, one of my oldest and dearest, who had to pack up, today, and flee the mountains and her home, in Paradise, California, as fires burned the whole town. She got out, is safe, called me the minute I pulled into my driveway, tonight.

All of this, swirling in my head, to open the market, tonight, with this thought…love your people, hug someone, smile at someone, show kindness, show compassion, live life by giving it the best that you’ve got…because in a split second, it all changes.

Good thoughts as we enter into the next few weeks of Thanksgiving. You know, the holiday that for years gets the rush. The brush off for the Christmas holiday. But, not this girl. I savor the days of November. I love losing myself in thoughts of all that I am thankful for, the people in my life, how fortunate I am to still have each circle of each stage of my life, in my close circles. I have the love of family, the love of friends, and thankful for each day that is given to us.

So, tonight, with a very thankful heart for this market, it’s customers, it’s vendors, it’s parental unit at the YMCA, I bring you this week’s market.

Just and FYI, we will have this market, and then, a week from tonight, we close for the Thanksgiving week. We will reopen the market, for ordering, on Thanksgiving night.

Give lots of thought as to what you may need for your holiday food needs, any hostess gifts, any candles to set the ambience of the holiday, any baked goods to put on your dessert tables. I do know that our pie lady, of Ruthie’s Pies, has several varieties to chose from, for the flavor of the holiday.

You are going to need it all…don’t forget the milk for your recipes, the cheeses to serve as appetizers, breads for dinner, vegetables and lettuces for all of the side dishes. Maple syrups and honey for the sweetness of the holiday. Soaps, oils, body scrubs, artistic objects are great to give a hostess. Maybe turkey isn’t your jam…order a different type of meat to celebrate your thankful day. Jams, sauces…all essential for whatever the holiday brings. To jazz up your sandwiches from you leftovers, turn to the mustards or jalapeno sweetness of relish. Eggs…you know they are essential to your recipe fun!! Are you entertaining someone who needs to be gluten-free? We’ve got it covered! You will need coffee to go with the pies that we offer, and wait for it…what about your fur babes?? They will be hungry, and waiting patiently. Why not have their fav dog treats, on hand?

Ok….I am leaving you, tonight, with an amazing market, amazing products, amazing vendors, and you, the amazing customers.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for making us part of your daily lives…we live for the days, the moments, the seconds…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Champaign, OH:  A Hazy Shade Of Winter

Time, time time, see what’s become of me
While I looked around for my possibilities
I was so hard to please
Don’t look around
The leaves are brown
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter…
(Simon & Garfunkel-A Hazy Shade Of Winter)

Well…hello to this sudden change of cold, fallen leaves, and the reminder that we are full into that space of time that seasons change so quickly…

Also…that time moves so quickly, which means that this next hour will also be passing, quickly, so if you have not yet put in an order, you have until 8am!!

The market is another crazy one…a crazy shade of all things good!!

See you on the other side of 8am!!

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

The Cumming Harvest - Closed:  This week on The Cumming Harvest

This Week

Market opens at 10AM

MARK YOUR CALENDARS: THE MARKET WILL BE CLOSED SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24.

ON THE MARKET:

It’s that time of year when eggs are starting to run low on the market. It’s not that the cold temperatures reduce laying; in fact, decreasing daylight does. Laying hens need between 14 to 16 hours of sunlight in order to be fully productive, so fall and winter are naturally a time of rest. Of course, they don’t stop completely, but you will notice a significant drop in available eggs.

My Daily Bread makes holiday entertaining easy with their new cookie platters. Platters come in three different sizes to please any crowd you might have.

Cultured Traditions is running a special on Pumpkin Spice Jun. This is a limited edition, so try it before it’s gone!

Simply Southard has two new items for you to try, Pickled Jalapenos with Carrots and Onions, as well as Jalapeno Salsa. Find them in the “Processed Foods” category.

In the MEATS department, you will find:
Southern Grass Meat grass-fed beef

Back in Time will be back any week now with more chicken!

Other items this week:
Sauces, rubs and marinades from Nature’s Kitchen

5 Lights Farm Honey

Simply Southard jellies and relishes
