Dawson Local Harvest:  There is still time to order

Good morning,

The market closes for orders at 9 pm tonight, but you still have time to get in on the action!

Fresh eggs, refreshing Jun, jams and jellies, crisp veggies…

Take a look around and see if anything jumps out at you.

If you like what we are doing, please tell a friend! Also, we appreciate any feedback from you all – after all, this market is for you! If there is anything we can do to improve, we’d love to know!

Thanks!

Yalaha, FL:  Wheatgrass available

We DO have plenty of Wheatgrass this week.

Order now through 5 pm Thursday February 21st for Friday Feb 22nd or Saturday February 23rd Pickup, (or contact me if you want a different day, we do have some flexibility.) This week Friday may be best or early Sat Morning.

Remember to tell me when you want to pick up!

Hi All, Just want to share that I have been getting back into fermenting again. Let me know if you are interested in getting fresh cultures for Kombucha, Milk Kefir, or Water Kefir. My Kefir grains especially have been growing fast. The Kombucha scoby is a little slower about it.

Please let me know what micro greens or shoots you are interested in and I can start growing enough to make them available (most take less than 2 weeks.)
Also, if you want me to list super foods like Purslane, let me know, I have it volunteering wild here and I will likely also have nettles come winter/spring season.

If you have any particular requests, let me know I’m happy to grow to order.

Sign in to order. https://yalaha.locallygrown.net/market

You have to sign in to see the add to cart button. Then set the number and click the add to cart button on the items you want to buy (it is the little picture right next to the quantity box.) Remember you need to check out before your order will be placed.
Remember to let me know when you want to pick up on Sat or maybe even Friday late afternoon or on Sunday. (If I don’t send you an e-mail confirmation of your order and pick up time, please make sure you checked out and completed your order.)

Champaign, OH:  Sweet Tuesday Morning

Sweet Tuesday morning
You came and you smiled…
(Sweet Tuesday Morning-Badfinger)

Here we are…a sunshine filled morning, and another day to get your orders in!

Our market offers so much, now, that you truly can do all of your healthy, nutritional shopping with us, before you need to hit the big box stores!!

And, why not spend your hard earned money on our good food, hand made items, locally grown, locally produced, products of love?? Small communities thrive on all of us shopping as local as possible. And, we work hard, here at this little local market, to bring you an array of products, year round, to not only help our market thrive, but to help the community thrive.

We take pride in all that we offer our customers…and we take pride in being the umbrella to the in season markets, in this little local community.

Basically, we are the Lovelight of the markets…shining bright, each week, all year, ready to take you into your week…

Sweet Tuesday Morning to you all…

XOXO,
Cosmic Pam

Middle Tennessee Locally Grown:  Reminder: Ordering Closes at 10 pm

Manchester Locally Grown market

Our pickup location is across the street from the Manchester City Schools administration building, at

216 East Fort Street, Manchester, TN

If you don’t see a map, click on the address link.

Good morning!

This is just a friendly reminder to place your order online for this week. Market ordering will close tonight at 10 pm. Please don’t forget to place your order soon! But if you do forget to order, give me (Linda) a call Wednesday morning. I will most likely be able to get hold of the farmers and place a late order for you.

Remember to hit that last “submit” button. I really dislike disappointing a customer who comes to market, only to find no order in their name because they didn’t hit the last button. When your order is placed, you will receive an email confirmation. If for any reason you fail to receive this confirmation, please contact Linda as soon as you realize it’s missing.

Also please go to our Facebook page and like, comment, and share this week’s post. Facebook isn’t allowing me to post on multiple sites, or sometimes post multiple photos. So please help us spread the word. Surveys indicate that word of mouth is the most effective form of advertisement. Please help us advertise our fantastic growing market!

See you on Thursday!

Blessings,
Michael & Linda

Fresh Harvest, LLC:  Last Call for 2 Weeks - Fresh Harvest

Market News

Hello!
There is a new item listed, Baby Kale. More Cilantro and Beets have been added to the Market. There are still a few eggs. If you want me to add items to an existing order, you can email me or place another order.

The Market will remain open until Tuesday evening for you to place an order for this week. Next delivery day will be March 6th.

Here is some information on how Fresh Harvest works.
*If you see an item as Sold Out, write in the Comment section at check out that you would like that item if more becomes available. We’ll try our best to add it to your order.
• If you recruit a new customer to Fresh Harvest and they open an account with a $50 deposit, we will credit your account $10 for each new customer who signs up. They will need to tell me your name, so that I can credit your account. Word of mouth has been our best advertising. Any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated.
• Every week, we leave orders at the church for customers who cannot arrive at Trinity before 6pm. This has worked well for those who have difficulty with the 4-6pm window. Please let me know if you need me to leave your order at the church.
• The bag that you receive each week is to be brought back with your next order. We have been negligent in telling new customers how this works. Don’t feel bad if you return multiple bags, it happens all the time.
• We’re into reusing and recycling. Our clean egg cartons, honey jars, paper and plastic bags, berry containers are some of the items that we can reuse. If we can’t reuse the returned items, we’ll recycle them.
• We do guarantee everything that we sell. If you ever have a problem, please let us know and we will credit your account.
• If there are other products or growers that you think should be a part of Fresh Harvest, please let me know.

Thanks for your support, and I will see you on Wednesday!

If you need to text me, my number is 615-838-0428.

Recipes

Mushroom Frittata with Pecorino Romano
12 large eggs
1/3 cup whole milk
salt & pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound mushrooms, stemmed & cut into 1/2 inch pieces
2 tablespoons water
2 scallions, white parts minced, green parts sliced thin
1 tablespoon sherry vinegar
1 1/2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme
2 1/4 ounces Pecorino Romano, shredded (3/4 cup)

1. Adjust oven rack to middle position and heat oven to 350 degrees. Whisk eggs, milk, and 1/2 teaspoon salt in bowl until well combined. 2. Heat oil in 12-inch ovensafe nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until shimmering. Add mushrooms, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; cook, stirring frequently, until mushrooms are tender and spotty brown, 7 to 9 minutes. Add water, scallion whites, vinegar, and thyme; continue to cook, stirring constantly, until no water remains in skillet, about 1 minute longer. 3. Add Pecorino, scallion greens, and egg mixture and cook, using rubber spatula to stir and scrape bottom of skillet until large curds form and spatula leaves trail through eggs but eggs are still very wet, about 30 seconds. Smooth curds into even layer and cook, without stirring, for 30 seconds. Transfer skillet to oven and bake until frittata is slightly puffy and surface bounces back when lightly pressed, 6 to 9 minutes. Using rubber spatula, loosen frittata from skillet and transfer to cutting board. Let stand for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Easy to Peel Hard Boiled Eggs
Be sure to use large eggs that have no cracks and are cold from the refrigerator. If you don’t have a steamer basket, use a spoon or tongs to gently place the eggs in the water. It does not matter if the eggs are above the water or partially submerged. You can use this method for fewer than six eggs without altering the timing. You can also double this recipe as long as you use a pot and steamer basket large enough to hold the eggs in a single layer. There’s no need to peel the eggs right away. They can be stored in their shells and peeled when needed. 1. Bring 1 inch water to rolling boil in medium saucepan over high heat. Place eggs in steamer basket. Transfer basket to saucepan. Cover, reduce heat to medium-low, and cook eggs for 13 minutes. 2. When eggs are almost finished cooking, combine 2 cups ice cubes and 2 cups cold water in medium bowl. Using tongs or spoon, transfer eggs to ice bath; let sit for 15 minutes.

Market News

This week, I’d like to highlight a feature of the website that you may have missed. When we started filling orders paperlessly a several years ago, I revamped the “Order History” that you can view by looking at the Your Account page. Back when we had a sheet of paper with your order on it, you could see right then if a grower couldn’t fill an item you had ordered. Now, we try to tell you (we can see that on our little screens), but I do sometimes get asked days or weeks later about missing items (often when someone else picked up the order, and word didn’t get passed back). The system records every time a grower takes something off your order by adding a note to the comment section of the order. Sometimes they’ll also email you in person, but not always. Additionally, the system records when we put an item in your basket or bag, and how you paid. If something turns up missing because the grower didn’t bring it, or if we later discover a bag with your name on it (usually because we accidentally gave you someone else’s), it’ll record that too. We automatically issue refunds for items you paid for but didn’t receive (and you’ll get an automated email each time), and that gets recorded also. You can see all these notes and details about your order by pulling it up in your order history and clicking the link for the PDF Invoice.

If you want to double-check our packing as we hand you your order, you can print out that invoice and bring it with you or load it up on your smart phone. There’s nothing wrong with that, and we welcome your diligence. By 2pm on Thursday, it should accurately reflect what you’re going to be getting that day. I will say that the paperless system has improved our order filling accuracy tremendously. We still have to refund a thing or two each week, but well over 99.9% of the items are getting to where they’re supposed to go.

If you have entered your credit card into our system, we do not run those cards until after pickups close on Thursday night, and the total charged to your card reflects any adjustments that had to get made along the way. If there is any question, the PDF has an item by item accounting of everything you received and was charged for, so we can go back over that at any time.

If you’ve ordered something one week and want to order it again, but can’t quite remember what it was called or who sold it, there’s a simpler version of your order history right on the market page. If you never use it, you can hide it, but what makes it really useful is the items you ordered previously will have an “add to cart” link right next to them if they are currently being offered for sale again. If you like to buy the same things each week, it can really speed up your shopping time.

Thank you so much for your support of Athens Locally Grown, all of our growers, local food, and our rights to eat it. You all are part of what makes Athens such a great area in which to live. We’ll see you on Thursday at Ben’s Bikes at the corner of Pope and Broad Streets from 4:30 to 8pm!

Other Area Farmers Markets

Most other area markets are starting to close down for the season or move to winter hours. The Athens Farmers Market will return in the Spring. You can catch the news on their website. The West Broad Farmers Market is closed for the season, and you can watch for their return here: http://www.athenslandtrust.org/west-broad-farmers-market/. The Comer Farmers’ Market is open on Saturday mornings from 9am to noon. Check www.facebook.com/comerfm for more information. Washington, GA also has a lovely little Saturday market, running on winter hours now on Saturdays from 1-4pm. Folks to the east can check out the Hartwell Farmers Market, which starts bright and early on Saturday morning from 7am to noon, and Tuesday afternoons from noon to 4pm. You can learn all about them here: www.washingtonfarmersmkt.com. If you know of any other area markets operating, please let me know.

All of these other markets are separate from ALG (including the Athens Farmers Market) but many growers sell at multiple markets. Please support your local farmers and food producers, where ever you’re able to do so!

We thank you for your interest and support of our efforts to bring you the healthiest, the freshest, and the most delicious locally-produced foods possible!
